Season: September to March
Description: Pear comes from the germanic pera, which comes from the latin pira, which comes from the greek apiros. Pears are referenced in Homer's Odyssey. They were cultivated by the Romans too, but they didn't eat them raw. If you want to eat them like the Romans, then you'll want to stew your pears in honey. But you won't top the Dardanians, an ancient tribe who named their kingdom Dardania - yes, Pearland.
