Season: Year round
Description: This ancient food—the first record of it dates back 4,500 years—has become a common household product not only because it's healthy, but also because of some hype. In the 15th century, it cured the stomach problems of French king, Francis I and became known as a digestive aid. Then in the 1900's, it was touted as a miracle food that added years to your life and two companies began marketing the product nearly simultaneously: Danone in Barcelona (then came to the US under the name Dannon) and Colombo & Sons Creamery in Andover, MA. Today, scientists are still researching whether it does help your immune system and or increase your lifespan.
